YET ANOTHER STEP IN THE NOMINATION PROCESS…

 

Bursa was nominated on behalf of Turkey for UNESCO World Heritage List in 2014 through the efforts endeavored by Metropolitan Municipality. The nomination file was finalized and submitted to UNESCO.

Yet another step was taken in the process of nominating historical assets of Bursa for UNESCO World Culture Heritage List with the meeting held at the Ministry of Culture. The Director General of Museums and Cultural Assets, Osman Murat Süslü, his Deputy Abdullah Kocapınar, Site Director Prof. Dr. Neslihan Dostoğlu, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Deputy General Secretary Bayram Vardar and Surveys & Projects Division Manager Nalan Fidan attended this meeting.

A new file was prepared at this meeting, by revising the file to be submitted to UNESCO and supplementing that file with additional documents and documentaries about Bursa. The file will be submitted to International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, the 31st of January, who will then deliver it to UNESCO. Through this process Bursa is nominated to be included in UNESCO World Culture Heritage List on behalf of

Turkey in 2014. ICOMOS will now send a committee to Turkey to visit the nominated sites. UNESCO will announce the results of the assessment in 2014 following completion of the survey.

Nomination process

Bursa, the city nominated by Turkey for UNESCO in the “cultural heritage” category, continues with the process with  Cumalıkızık Village, the site of Historic  Bazaars and Inns and Sultan Complexes. The nomination file titled “Bursa and Cumalıkızık: The Dawn of Ottoman Empire” was submitted to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on 3 September 2012 to initiate the application for historical sites of Bursa such as the Hangar Site (Orhan Gazi Complex and its Periphery), Sultan Complexes (Hüdavendigar, Yıldırım, Yeşil, Muradiye) and Cumalıkızık Village to be included in UNESCO World Culture Heritage List.

Each country is entitled to apply with one cultural and one natural asset every year to be included in the World Heritage List. Bursa aims at being registered in UNESCO World Heritage List in the year 2014, with the file titled “Bursa and Cumalıkızık: The Dawn of Ottoman Empire” thanks to its cultural and natural assets, following this process.
