The competition organized by Bursa Metropolitan Municipality for determining the Bursa Khans Region Çarşıbaşı Urban Design Project has been concluded.
A new stage has been achieved in the project, planned to be implemented in the historical Bazaars and Khans region, which started to be formed in 14th century in Bursa, the first capital of the Ottoman Empire, and completed its development through the formation of Khans, Bazaars and covered bazaars in the 16th century, to cleanse the area of buildings and to reveal their historical values again. In the project of the Metropolitan Municipality, which was also supported by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, the demolition of 15 shops surrounding the tomb belonging to the 40th Ottoman Sheikhulislam, known as Bursalı Esiri Mehmet Efendi, behind Kızılay Region, İşkur, Central Bank and Pirinç Han, was completed. While expropriations are continuing, the competition to determine the project to be implemented in the region after the demolition was completed as well.
35 projects from Amasya, Istanbul, Kahramanmaraş, Ankara, Bursa, Kayseri, Sakarya, Kocaeli and Van participated in the competition. the evaluation process has been completed by the jury which was presided was Bursa Site Manager Prof. Dr. Neslihan Dostoğlu, and consisted of experts in their fields such as architect Mithat Kırayoğlu, Architect Ahmet Yılmaz, Master Architect Bünyamin Derman, Architect Ömer Selçuk Baz, Landscape Architect / Master Urban Designer Sunay Erdem and City and Regional Planner Alp Kaya. The jury team chose the project number 10, whose team leader was the architect Ece Avcı, in which the Tophane slopes and the historical Khans Region was considered as a whole and will completely pedestrianize the area. In the competition, the project number 22, of which Architect Osman Can Bagatır was the team leader, was the second and the project number 35, of which the Master Architect Fatih Yavuz was the team leader, ranked as the third. Also, 3 other projects were deemed worthy of mention in the competition.
