Turkey in 2014. ICOMOS will now send a committee to Turkey to visit the nominated sites. UNESCO will announce the results of the assessment in 2014 following completion of the survey.
Nomination process
Bursa, the city nominated by Turkey for UNESCO in the “cultural heritage” category, continues with the process with Cumalıkızık Village, the site of Historic Bazaars and Inns and Sultan Complexes. The nomination file titled “Bursa and Cumalıkızık: The Dawn of Ottoman Empire” was submitted to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on 3 September 2012 to initiate the application for historical sites of Bursa such as the Hangar Site (Orhan Gazi Complex and its Periphery), Sultan Complexes (Hüdavendigar, Yıldırım, Yeşil, Muradiye) and Cumalıkızık Village to be included in UNESCO World Culture Heritage List.
Each country is entitled to apply with one cultural and one natural asset every year to be included in the World Heritage List. Bursa aims at being registered in UNESCO World Heritage List in the year 2014, with the file titled “Bursa and Cumalıkızık: The Dawn of Ottoman Empire” thanks to its cultural and natural assets, following this process.
